As a “T” customer, was really looking forward to their releasing this phone. but what-the? Clunky pop-out manual keyboard instead of a virtual one? Crappy icon-based touch screen controls instead of intuitive built-in ones? After having the iPhone as a model for this long, I’d expect this phone to be at least on-par. Why release a 1.0 when your competiton is already at 2.0? I’m very disappointed.

Jonathan, Chicago, Illinois : YOU are the one that is uninformed and making dumb comments. 3G NEVER costed extra, and still doesnt. What they did was re-classify it to be on a smartphone/pda plan like the rest of them devices. In fact you could have been on the $30 smartphone/pda plan even if your device was only capable of 2G. On the other side of the coin, you can get a 3G Nokia N95 with a full web browser, flash, java, etc. and still only pay $15/mo. Please get YOUR facts right, before attempting to correct someone else!

I don’t understand folks hatred of AAPL and saying the Google phone is so much better without even using it. Why hope iPhone collapses and fails now that Google is coming? You people do realize if it wasn’t for the iPhone you would not have the Google phone, Sprint Instinct, or upcoming RIM touch phone?! Anyone who buys an Android phone should thank Apple for pushing the limits and forcing other companies to be innovative. Like it or not, any ‘touch’ phone is a direct descendant of the iPhone. Just as most mp3 players are descendants of the iPod — for the reason that most mp3 players and touch smart phones looks eerily similar to Apple products.

APPL was not first to do touch, but they made it popular and cool enough for others to enter that market. Competition is good, I still want an iPhone (when they up storage), but wish Google success. I only hope MS based phones sales plunge even more.

It seems google has stabbed someone else in the back with this latest offering. Weren’t they just recently working with apple to integrate their products onto the iphone. Then they recently said android would be a cross-platform operating system for smartphones. WOW you not only stabbed apple in the back but every major cell-phone carrier out there. but you have now run into something you couldn’t overcome, blind apple fanboy loyalty and stupidity. It doesn’t matter how much better your products are as long as it doesn’t have the apple logo you will continue to get stupid comments like the one from stevep.

No rick, the data was plan was not marked up $10 extra per month. The price for 3G access had always been 30, but original iPhone users were paying $20/month for 2.5G access. During the time between the original iPhone started selling, and the 3G iPhone started selling, Blackberry users were paying $30/month for 3G access… so get informed before you make dumb comments like that.

Google is a web application company, not a ’search’ company.

In Response to all of the “Should have gone with a carrier that doesn’t suck” people, I’ve personally dealt with almost every major carrier in the US, ATT/Cingular, Verizon, Sprint, Virgin Mobile, et al. All of them have dead zone (ATT being the worst) – they all have their problems, but the one thing that I can say about T-Mobile is that they haven’t attempted to rip me off (things like mystery charges (service insurance, AND phone insurance… what is service insurance?), providing “unlimited” text messaging (which had a real limit of 3000 messages per month, then .25 per message over… thanks ATT/Cingular.)

I’ve been with T-Mobile for going on 3 years now, and I haven’t had nonsense charges, or artificial “unlimited”ness so far.

In closing, thank you Google and HTC for choosing the only decent cell company available in the United State (I know their Finnish) -

I think its stupid that they compare it in price to the iPhone. The data plan was marked up $10 per month for the new 3g version, so its $240 more for 2 year service

There’s an old cliche very apropos for the gPhone, it’s ’stick to your knitting’ a lesson that Google hasn’t yet had a chance to learn, let them learn it the hard way, like all big companies eventually have to. Apple had to learn it, until they figured out what there knitting truly was.

The gPhone’s fail point will be a mixture of its open architecture, lack of control on hardware reference design, and inability to clearly position itself in an already overcrowded market.

I don’t know about you guys, but being a T-Mobile customer I find it warming to finally see an innovative phone being released on T-Mobile. I mean look at T-Mobile’s line up: their flagship is the T-Mobile Wing…crap! I will be getting this HTC Dream..I think it will be a great phone. I don’t think anything can kill the iPhone so I am not even going to compare the 2. I just know it cnt be worst than Wing.
