And Google doesn't work as well for local, bricks and mortar shops. Local businesses need to evaluate tools that help bring local customers into their stores. Seach works best for online sales. Even 'local search' has not been great for brick and mortar merchants. Local merchant would be better served by a product like Zimini (zimini.com) that allows them to launch local digital coupons and promos - more similar to the direct mail, and newspaper and handout coupons they have traditionally used.

"..."Google is so close to the point of sale"..." It is such a wonder! I heard, Google's CPC conversion rate, on average, tallied to be around 2%?? Is the best showing in online ads amounts to 50 clicks per sale, and merchants are still piling money on the bet? I hope things can be less desperate.

The click-through rate for Google's paid search ads is 2.2%. Yahoo gets slightly less than 1%, according to marketing analytics firm Covario. - Yi-Wyn Yen
