BT nails outsourcing wins

By Scott Moritz

British Telecom (BT) appears to be on a winning streak with a string of big telecom and network outsourcing deals.

In the span of three months, the U.K. phone giant has signed $1 billion worth of multi-year service managmement contracts that aim at the core of AT&T (T) and Verizon’s (VZ) enterprise services business. Earlier this week, BT says it signed a $650 million five-year service contract with Procter & Gamble (PG) to handle data, voice, network management and IT security for the consumer products shop.

Other recent deals include a similar contract with Cadbury, the No.1 candy maker and a big renewal with news and finance info giant Thomson Reuters.

BT America President Michael Boustridge says the company’s scale, with operations in 70 countries gives it a big advantage internationally. “Some companies say they are global, but they are really multinational,” says Boustridge.
