Privacy is NOT an old man's concern when facebook makes it as easy as signing up for an account with just a valid email address to gain access to the intimate details of a person/group/organization/agency's social circle, employee roster, and events calendar. Al Qaeda is probably facebook's biggest fan. I'm willing to bet that their members are experts at using the site.

As interesting as Facebook et al. are, it's still quite astonishing that so many people are so desperate for social contact by any means, yet so afraid (or isolated, or "busy", or simply self-absorbed) to merely go outside or down the hall and attempt it face-to-face -- or at least pick up the phone. Yes, it would be in real time, it would require think-on-your-feet-or-butt social skills, and that seems to be the terrible risk they would take. This writer needs Facebook to "harry" his wife and daughters on-line? My, what a delightfully modern American household.

Well, at least it's a major step up from MySpace, eh? Technology-wise as well as design and implementation... oh, and security too. Complaining about company politics is a far better thing than having to complain about security holes and constant errors/timeouts.
